As with the Harmony and Mechanical Chapters, there was a
resurgence of interest in the Royal Arch degree in the
1840s, and this resulted in the formation of the Royal
Sussex Chapter in 1848. It was consecrated in 1849. However
support was lacking and by 1860 the Mechanical Chapter had
merged with it. This was not sufficient to maintain numbers
and there are recorded numerous occasions throughout the
19th Century when the Chapter had insufficient members
present to open the Chapter.
It was not until the 1920s after the first world war that
interest was resurrected and by 1925 the Chapter assisted
in forming the Duke of Normandy Chapter.
